Hello, this is Steven Reid here. Sorry I haven't updated in such along time. Here is an update to read and ask questions about it to me later.
We had our last youth event on June 18/o5. We all went down to the Downtown Street Fair and played People Scavenger Hunt. Basically the youth were divided up into groups and were sent out with a camera and a list of things to photograph. Some of the things include: Someone wearing flip flops, someone wearing an eye patch, playing guitar, a belly dancer, Lorne Calvert. The youth had to approach, explain and ask permission to take a picture. No one was turned down, everyone had a great time. The pictures will be posted on the youth board in the church on June 26th. This was from 3-4:30pm. Then we all walked up to the Reid's house for some Reid's Home Made Burgers. This again was awesome and fun, the main point was to sit around and talk about the year. After this we went off to the free concert in Prime Ministers park, which Tom Cochran was performing. This went to about 11pm, and after that we all went home.
This year has been filled with ups and downs and all arounds. But all in all God has show His way, we have responed. Now as the youth are off for the summer, one will not be coming back as a youth. Johanna will be graduating June 25/05. She hopes to attend CBC in the fall, God's will is directing.
The next youth event will be the Camp Trip. The dates are July 11-15/05, that part is settled, the location isn't. We as the youth Ministry team have narrowed it down to 3 spots. The Gem Lakes, Steepbank Lake and Elain Lake. The Gem Lakes have about 5 camp spot around 5 different small lakes, these are located hear the Narrow Hills Provn. Park, but only one spot would fit all of us. Steepbank Lake is the same locating as last year, it is a great spot, but about 3-4 hours away, which is too far. Elain Lake is on the other side of PA Prov. park, only about 2 hours away, but, where as the other spots had an outhouse, picnic tables, and fire pits, this location has none of those things. This would very much be "Wilderness Back Country Camping". We hope to have an location before the end of the this week.
As for the teaching and preaching, this is looking more and more like we are going to have the theme of "Take No Though For Your Life", which is based off of Mat. 6:25-34. It was interesting looking at this verse. In the NIV it is all about Worry, we asked ourselves what's worry? So we looked up the same verses in KJV, and that is where the theme comes from. We will be base all of our teaching off of this, after the teaching time we will have a reflection time. This time will be spent in practicing some Spiritual Disciplines.
We will also be teaching “Wilderness Survival Techniques”. There will be five we will go over:Shelters, fire making, first aid, tie knots, knife sharping and use. We tried to teach these last year, but instead we spent most of the time cutting wood for the camp fire.
Well that's all for now, I'm really going to post more often. If you have any comments please go to the Youth page and leave them there. I think there is a link to that site on this blog.
Take care and God bless
